The download is a .zip file which contains three files:

  • A printable PDF template for tracing and cutting by hand
  • A step-by-step PDF installation guide
  • A CAD DXF file for use with a CNC machine

A welder is required — the brace is welded directly to the frame. An angle grinder or similar cutting tool is needed to cut the backing plate from steel stock. You will also need a center punch, a drill, a small (~1/8") pilot hole drill bit, as well as a larger 1/2" drill bit. No other specialized tools are required beyond basic hand tools for the installation itself.

To build this part you'll need a piece of plate steel approximately 5 1/8" x 10 1/4". We suggest using a plate about 1/8" thick, although you may go thicker or thinner depending on your needs.

You'll also need some material to build three spacers. We used 1" Diameter bar stock and drilled 1/2" holes through the center of it. Whatever material you choose for the spacers, you'll need a minimum of about 3" of length.

This brace should fit any Jeep XJ manufactured between 1984-2001.

This brace may also work with any Jeep MJ manufactured between 1986 and 1992, although we have not independently verified the fitment on an MJ.
